Eneko at One Aldwich is all about carefully-sourced ingredients, beautifully presented dishes, and a playful, modern menu with a distinct Basque Country-meets-London style. Starters are split into three sections, ‘From the Sea, Land and the Garden’. Memories of the Bay of Biscay, from the sea, is by far the most visually stunning dish with morsels of juicy oyster, delicate crab and wild prawn tartare finished off with a theatrical sea scented mist billowing onto the table. It's spectacular, delicate and a must order for seafood lovers.
Mains are similarly split into Meat, Fish and Vegetarian with the standout for us being the Duck, seared perfectly pink and served with julienne of king oyster mushrooms and pickled red onion. Equally impressive was the Cod Bizkaina, a traditional and delicate cod stripe stew with deep fried cod bites on top. Order this for the table, it’s too good not to, but a little too indulgent to have on its own.
A dessert trolley displays a remarkable selection of sweet things. From a coffee-cup layered cappuccino cheesecake to a striking in size Raspberry macaron, all come accompanied with traditional Basque sheep’s milk ice cream. The Basque vanilla sponge is another must for the table, so sweet and moreish you’ll be ordering second servings.
From the floating mezzanine wine bar Eneko at One Aldwych proudly champions the region’s vineyards from start to finish, including Eneko’s very own unique wines.
The space is so relaxed, warm and inviting with many materials sourced from craftsmen in the Basque region, you seriously won’t want to leave!
