The drinks use local Himalayan spices, herbs and liquors so that each drink takes you on an adventure and transports you to the mountains. As lovers of Whisky Sours, our favourite cocktail was the The Yak’s Milk made with Yunnan tea, fresh lemon juice, homemade spiced sugar syrup and Tamarind paste while the Hill Station Tea, a huge sharing cocktail with homemade pimiento rum mixed with brandy is shaken and served in a travelling flask. Copper mugs and teacups are a staple here.
Food is ordered via an old vintage telephone nestled on the bar. The Basecamp Burger is a must! It’s juicy and delicious – pink sliced flat iron steak in a toasted brioche bun with crispy shallot rings and, watercress and radish salad. The beef dripping fries on the side are perfect to wipe up the homemade horseradish and mustard mayo! Other dishes include the Mountain cheese platter which is served with homemade saffron and pear chutney and homemade sourdough bread.
Luckily you won’t have to climb a mountain to reach this tiny refuge hut, so there should be nothing stopping you to get down to Tooting stat.
